Planning & Development

Division

The mission of the El Paso Fire Department Planning and Infrastructure Development Division is to provide assistance to the fire department and the community in short, mid and long range planning so that fire safety policies and programs are effectively and efficiently implemented.

We apply knowledge to assist in the development and improvement of the department, organizations, communities, and public institutions through research, code compliance, and use of technology.

Land Development

Long Range Planning/ Current Subdivision, Zoning and SmartCode Applications
The Planning and Infrastructure Development Division assists in long range planning of future fire stations. We assist in site selection and with the land acquisition process for new fire stations.

Development Coordinating Committee
The Planning and Infrastructure Development Division represents the El Paso Fire Department in the Development Coordinating Committee and the Subdivision Coordinating Committee. We also represent the EPFD in the City Plan Commission, the Mountain Development Plan Committee, and the MTP Committee.

Professional Development Training

The Training Academy is responsible for providing classroom instruction and practical training to all new firefighters, current firefighters and medics for the El Paso Fire Department. This training includes firefighting tactics and strategy, emergency medical skills, hazardous material response, emergency vehicle driver training, rappelling, rescue, and other types of training. The Academy is a very busy place providing training not only for the Fire Department but also for other departments in the surrounding area, outside agencies, and potential fire department applicants. The Academy is also involved in recruiting new firefighters for the department.

Explorer Program

“Exploring is the young adult career education program of "Learning for Life" for young men and women who are 14 and graduates of the eighth grade or 15 through 20 years of age. Fire and Emergency Services Exploring is a youth development program centered on fire and emergency service careers. Fire and Emergency Service Explorers might choose to visit fire schools, fire trade shows, musters, fire competitions, community presentation programs, first aid skills competition, and/or community disaster programs. The bottom line is that Fire and Emergency Service Exploring is an action-oriented, hands-on career or volunteer discovery program.”

Anyone interested in the Explorers Program can contact the El Paso Fire Department Training Academy at (915) 212-0380.

Station Renovation
The Planning and Infrastructure Development Division oversees station renovations and assures that the needs of the affected fire department crews are met.

Paramedic Program

The paramedic program of the El Paso Fire Department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Profession (CoAEMSP).

The goal of the paramedic program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skill), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.

The El Paso Fire Department Paramedic Program is outcome-based. Our goal is to have the student succeed in acquiring National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification after completing the course. Here are the numbers and percentages of our students who have accomplished this.
