Bike Month 2026 At The Market
The City of El Paso celebrated Bike Month 2026 at San Jacinto Plaza with a family-friendly event promoting bicycle safety, active transportation, and community engagement.
Residents of all ages joined local bike clubs, bicycle shops, community organizations, and public agencies for a day of bicycle safety activities, community bike rides, giveaways, and family-friendly programming. Highlights included a bicycle safety rodeo led by the El Paso Police Department Metro Unit, free safety equipment, and themed mural and architecture rides through downtown El Paso.
The event also provided an opportunity for residents to share feedback on the City’s Bike Plan Update and help shape the future of bicycling in El Paso.

Walk, Bike & Roll To School - Cielo Vista Elementary
Students, parents, faculty, and community partners joined together for a Walk, Bike & Roll to School event at Cielo Vista Elementary, promoting safe routes to school and active transportation.
Participants gathered at Vista del Valle Park before walking, biking, skating, scootering, and rolling to school as a community. The event was supported by the El Paso Police Department, which assisted with traffic safety along the route, and UMC, which provided bicycle and pedestrian safety education to students prior to the event.
Special thanks to Principal Maria Guerrero and the Cielo Vista Elementary faculty and staff for helping make the event possible.
El Paso Receives National Safe Routes To School Mini-Grant
The City of El Paso has been selected as one of only three communities nationwide to receive a 2026 mini-grant from the National Center for Safe Routes to School.
The grant will support quick-build pedestrian safety improvements near the downtown international port of entry, helping improve safety along a corridor with significant pedestrian activity and connections to nearby schools.
This recognition highlights El Paso’s continued commitment to creating safer, more accessible streets for children, families, and all roadway users through community-driven transportation safety projects.

District 1 Bike Rodeo
Families, children, and community partners gathered for the District 1 Bike Rodeo, hosted by the Office of City Representative Alejandra Chávez.
Held on April 18, the free event provided bicycle safety education, interactive riding activities, helmet and bike safety demonstrations, and opportunities for children to practice their riding skills in a fun and supportive environment.
The event was made possible through the collaboration of community organizations, public safety partners, and local sponsors committed to promoting safer streets, healthy lifestyles, and active transportation for El Paso families.
Judge Najera 3rd Annual Bike Rodeo
Children, families, and community partners came together for the 3rd Annual Bike Rodeo, a free event focused on bicycle safety, active lifestyles, and fun learning opportunities for young riders.
Hosted by Justice of the Peace Lucilla Najera, the event provided children ages 5–12 with the opportunity to practice bicycle safety skills, participate in a guided skills course, receive helmet fittings and safety checks, and enjoy games, giveaways, and other family-friendly activities.
The event was made possible through the collaboration of community organizations, public agencies, and local sponsors committed to promoting safe bicycling habits, healthy lifestyles, and safer streets for El Paso families.
2026 International Walk To School Month
Every October, schools and communities around the world celebrate International Walk to School Month by promoting safe, healthy, and active ways for students to travel to school.
The City of El Paso is proud to support this global movement and looks forward to partnering with local schools and families to encourage walking, biking, and rolling to school throughout the month.

El Paso Schools Recognized for Exemplary Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety
The City of El Paso is recognizing Moye Elementary, Aoy Elementary, Herrera Elementary, and Coach Wally Hartley PK-8 with an Official Safe Routes to School Designation for their dedication to teaching bicycle and pedestrian safety education and encouraging their students to walk and bike to School. Keep up the great work El Paso!
Bike Safety Extravaganza
The City of El Paso, University Medical Center, and Sam’s Club worked together to host a Bike Safety event complete with free snacks, free bicycle helmets, a bike safety course, and rules of the ride education station.
El Paso Awarded a Federal Grant for Safe Routes to School
After adopting Vision Zero, El Paso’s plan to end roadway fatalities, the City was awarded 2$ million as part of the Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant to launch a Safe Routes to School Program. The funds will go to infrastructure improvements at Priority Schools
