Nuisance Code

To safeguard public health and safety, Code Officers enforce laws to abate activities considered nuisances within the city limits, such as excessive noise, junk vehicles, and unkempt properties. To learn more about all ordinances addressing nuisances visit the El Paso City Code.

Recycling Enforcement

The Recycling Enforcement team mitigates recycling contamination by supporting the City’s Curbside Recycling Program with education outreach and inspections of materials tossed in blue bins.

Recycling Tips

  • Material accepted includes: paper, cut up cardboard, aluminum, tin, and plastics #1 and #2. Learn more at: Recycle Right El Paso
  • Rinse and clean your recyclables, they should not contain any food or product residue.
  • DO NOT BAG your recyclables; items should remain loose in your blue bin.
  • E-waste does not belong in the blue bin. Recycle electronic waste or E-waste at a Citizen Collection Station.
  • Remember the curbside recycling program does not accept glass or plastic bags or film.

Containers

Waste Containers on City Right of Way (trash can ads): Code officers enforce franchise agreements of waste containers by a private entity (person or company) on the City rights-of-way .

Containers (dumpsters) on City Right of Ways: Code Officers enforce laws related to dumpster placement, overflowing containers, and interference with vehicular traffic to safeguard public health and safety.

Construction disposal containers (dumpsters): Ordinances related to dumpsters used for the disposal of construction material are enforced by the Code Enforcement Department to protect public health and the environment.

Parking Enforcement

Vehicle for Hire Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Department enforces laws related to a Vehicle for Hire.

A Vehicle for Hire is when a vehicle is used for providing transportation services for a fee. The passenger or passengers choose their origin and destination and do not drive the vehicle. This includes taxis, limousines, and shuttles. The Code Vehicle for Hire Section inspects for licensing, vehicle cleanliness, refusal of services, overcharging customers, and ADA compliance at the international ports of entry and the El Paso International Airport.

Vector Control

The City of El Paso's Vector Control Program takes a proactive approach to protecting the El Paso community and surrounding municipalities by controlling mosquitos. They also address concerns related to stagnant water and confirm possible rodent and select insect infestations (ticks and fleas, excluding bees).
