Phase I Improvements

The Downtown Bicycle Improvements Phase I project, will aim to create an environment that is conducive to alternative modes of transportation, which are inclusive of cyclists. This exciting project include includes the installation of 3.92 miles of bicycle facilities for several downtown El Paso streets.

These enhancements will provide safe spaces for cyclists to utilize during their daily commute or for recreation. Cycling promotes healthy lifestyles, strong community connections, and a sustainable transportation network that serves as a valuable community asset that links parks, businesses, and schools.

By providing a strong bicycle network, the City of El Paso is enhancing the safety for all road users, spurring economic growth for local businesses, and improving the health of residents.  Offering various modes of transportation for El Paso helps reduce traffic congestion, cuts emissions, and makes our community a more vibrant and prosperous places to live and visit. 

Construction of these improvements will begin in the Spring of 2026, and will take approximately one year to complete.  The construction schedule can be modified in order to address any unforeseen conditions or events.

This project with an approximate total budget of $2.8 million is part of the City of El Paso’s ongoing investment to help beautify and reshape the visual identity of El Paso’s comprehensive regional transportation system for the benefit of the community.
