Join the City of El Paso in commemorating Juneteenth throughout the month of June. Experience a vibrant array of activities hosted by our Museums, Parks and Recreation, Libraries, and more. About Juneteenth

Juneteenth, short for "June Nineteenth," commemorates the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take control of the state and enforce the emancipation of all enslaved people. This event occurred two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. 
Juneteenth was officially declared a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. This year, Juneteenth will be observed on Friday, June 19.

Juneteenth Drop-In Activities

Stop by the second floor of the El Paso Museum of History to enjoy free, self-guided drop-in activities highlighting Juneteenth and Black crafting traditions as well as El Paso’s local Black history.

Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth with an evening of culture, community, and celebration. Enjoy live music, local vendors, and delicious food while honoring freedom, heritage, and unity. Bring your family and friends for a memorable event filled with entertainment and fun.

Abeni Janae will bring music, culture, and celebration to life aboard the streetcar as we honor Juneteenth.
