    Vote on Tax Rate

    The City Council of the City of El Paso is scheduled to vote on the tax rate at the Regular City Council Meeting to be held on August 23, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. at the City Council Chambers, City 1, 300 N. Campbell Street, El Paso, Texas 79901.

    Condition 4 - 9300 Billy Kid St

    El Paso, Texas – At approximately 10:59 p.m. on Friday Aug. 26, the El Paso Fire Department was dispatched to a condition 2 fire at the 9300 block of Billy the Kid St. when passersby saw heavy smoke and flames and called 9-1-1. Upon arriving on the scene at 11:03 p.m., crews found heavy flames and smoke coming from a rail car inside a business. Firefighters began to simultaneously fight the fire and search for the employees of the business, but there was no one inside.

    ComSAR - McKelligon Canyon

    El Paso, Texas – At approximately 1:58 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 27, the El Paso Fire Department was dispatched to McKelligon Canyon when a hiker called 9-1-1 to report his fellow hiker had fallen and sustained serious injuries. The first unit arrived on the scene at 2:03 p.m. and visually spotted the two hikers. The Combined Search and Rescue team was immediately dispatched to reach them.

    Condition 2 - 100 Camille

    El Paso, Texas – At approximately 10:37 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 25, the El Paso Fire Department was dispatched to a condition 2 fire at the 100 block of Camille Dr. when a resident saw smoke and called 9-1-1. Upon arriving on the scene at 10:40 p.m., crews found heavy flames coming from the bottom floor of one of the buildings in an apartment complex. Firefighters began to simultaneously fight the fire and search for occupants in the complex. Firefighters evacuated all tenants in that one building and continued to fight the fire.

    Second travel-related case of Zika serves as a reminder for those visiting affected areas

    EL PASO, Texas - The City of El Paso Department of Public Health (DPH) announced today the confirmation of the second travel-related case of Zika virus in the area. A non-pregnant woman tested positive for the virus following travel to Puerto Rico. The island has been identified as a Zika affected area where active mosquito transmission of Zika is currently taking place. “This individual spent a week in this affected area and started showing symptoms shortly after returning to El Paso on August 17th,” said Robert Resendes, Public Health Director. “This person has since self-isolated, but this latest case is another reminder to the community to protect themselves, especially when traveling to highly affected areas.”
