Stop by a local business, avoid peak driving hours, enjoy specials!
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is spearheading a Traffic Jam initiative in an effort to increase traffic to local businesses while decreasing traffic on major roadways. While completely eliminating congestion is impossible, luring drivers to pull off the road and into local businesses can help break up the gridlock on El Paso’s westside along North Mesa Street and Sunland Park Drive, or at least give people a more pleasant experience.
Drivers benefit because they will be able to take a break from traffic while receiving special promos or discounts from businesses along their route. For businesses that offer a traffic jam promotional special, TxDOT and its initiative partners will be providing awareness through digital marketing. Partners include Metropia Inc., the Downtown Management District, Sunland Park Mall, the City of El Paso’s Traffic Mitigation Team, and the GO 10 project. All partners offer a significant reach to thousands of people via social media, e-blasts, newsletters, mobile app users, and its websites.
Because the marketing support being offered to businesses is largely digital, #epJam has been established as the official hashtag of the initiative. People are also encouraged to download the Metropia app (metropia.com/elpaso) and follow @GO10EP and @TxDOTELP.
