about

The Vacant Building ordinance allows the City to track, monitor, and manage nuisance vacant properties. The ordinance aims to ensure that vacant buildings remain secured and are properly maintained. Owners of vacant properties must register their property with the City.
The relevant vacancy period for determining if a property is "vacant" is:

  • a continuous period of three or more years if such building or structure is designated for nonresidential uses; or

  • a continuous period of two or more years if such building or structure is designated for residential use having less than four dwelling units.

To learn more about the ordinance and its registration requirements please check out this presentation or the Vacant Building Ordinance.

For information about the application process, please call 541-4622 or visit the One-Stop Shop, at 811 Texas St. from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
