• August 4, 2006 (9:48pm) - At this time the shelter that had been set up at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center has been closed. Currently there are 30 individuals remaining at the convention center that will be placed in area hotels by the Red Cross. The only two shelters remaining open at this time are the Canutillo Elementary School shelter at 651 Canutillo and the Ysleta Del Sur Wellness Center located at 11200 Santos Sanchez. The Red Cross has a 24-hour answering service at (915) 592-0208 available for anyone needing assistance from the Red Cross. There are 200 evacuees at the Canutillo Elementary shelter and 12 at the Ysleta Del Sur Wellness Shelter. The convention center will remain setup in case a need arises to reopen the center. The Red Cross also has setup a service center where individuals needing assistance can have questions answered, open cases, receive supplies to include cleaning equipment and snacks. This service center is located at 1885 McNutt Road in Sunland Park, New Mexico at the San Martin De Porras Parish Hall. The Office of Emergency Management will continue to assess the situation and help in the coordination of efforts as needs arise. The Office of Emergency Management would like to thank the community and all the Federal, State, County and local agencies that have been assisting and coordinating the various efforts.
