    Department Warns Residents of Disease Risk Involving Pet Turtles

    Just last year DPH staff investigated two cases of Salmonella Poona in small children, part of a multi-state cluster associated with red-eared slider turtles.

    Department of Public Health Recognized as TB Elimination Champion

    As health agencies around the globe commemorate World TB Day on March 24, 2016, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health’s Tuberculosis (TB) Prevention program is being recognized as a TB Elimination Champion by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). After presenting the CDC with a list of best practices and success stories in the borderland, the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination presented the distinction in honor of the program’s commitment and continuing efforts to improving public health.

    El Paso Records First Flu-Related Death this Season

    The City of El Paso Department of Public Health has recorded the first flu-related death in our area this season. The case involves a woman in her late 50’s who had underlying medical conditions. She had tested positive for Influenza A/H1N1, and it is not known if she had received a flu vaccine this year.
