Training

Your El Paso Police Department future begins at the Training Academy.Firearms During the 26 week training period, you will be taught subjects ranging from criminal law, report writing, principles of investigation, defensive tactics, police vehicle operations and firearm training. Your training will also consist of aerobic and strength building along with defensive tactics.

The El Paso Police Academy is located high on beautiful Scenic Drive overlooking El Paso. Classes are generally held Monday-Friday, and some night and weekend training may be required. Recruits do not reside on the premises. While in the Academy you will be paid as a Police Trainee. After you complete the Academy will be receive a pay raise and begin your career as a Police Officer.

Take DownRecruits are required to provide their own housing, purchase their duty weapon (a list of approved weapons will be supplied), physical training apparel, foot wear, textbooks and other training material.

  • Upon completion of the Academy and successfully passing the TCLEOSE Exam (this is the state exam), you will be assigned to one of our five regional command centers. During the next year, you will apply what you have learned in the Academy alongside a Field Training Officer who will provide on the job training and mentoring.
