Welcome to the El Paso Police Department’s Sex offender Registration & Tracking Unit (S.O.R.T.) web page.
The Mission of the unit is to ensure that there are no more victims of sex crimes at the hands of registered sex offenders
Strategies:
- Provide the community with public information on registered sex offenders
- Ensure sex offenders are complying with State and National sex offender laws
- Track and verify information given by sex offenders
- Notify school districts about registered sex offenders in their regions
- Follow-up on cases involving registered sex offenders
- Maintain sex offender files and databases
- Work closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the El Paso Sheriffs Department, the U.S. Marshals, and the Attorney Generals office.
In April of 2007, the El Paso City Council passed an Ordinance which restricts a registered sex offender with one or more counts whose victim was a child or two or more counts whose victim was an adult from living within 1,000 ft. of a school, park, or daycare. These types of ordinances have been passed in various Texas cities but El Paso is the largest to pass it. The El Paso Police Department has worked with the City’s mapping department to create an on-line map of the city showing schools, parks, and daycares along with a highlighted restricted 1,000 ft. radius around each. Click the Map Link below to access it. To view registered sex offenders, click the Texas D.P.S. link.
