What is Safe Communities?

The Safe Communities Program is a program designed to collect and analyze data, and use the data to determine the locations for increased enforcement, provide increased community education and public awareness, and work with community leaders to reduce motor vehicle crashes and traffic incidents in El Paso.

Reduce traffic issues at the schools

Safe Communities currently offers the following programs:

  1. Safe Riders Class- This class is intended to teach parents and caregivers proper usage of safety seats. The class is taught by Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. At the end of each class the Technicians will ensure that the participants have installed their safety seats correctly. Participants may also qualify for a free safety seat.

  2. School-Age Pedestrian Program- This program is designed to teach students pedestrian safety. Officers will go to the various schools and teach both parents and students the laws in regards to pedestrian and school zones.

  3. Senior Pedestrian Program- This program offers education to Senior groups reeducating them on how to be a safe pedestrain. These classes are offered to various Senior Center, Senior Housing, and Bingo Halls.

  4. Safe Communities is currently working with TABC to investigate incidents involving alcohol in an effort to curb the amount of DWI’s on our streets.

  5. Law Enforcement working with Liquor Establishments- Officers offer education to local liquor establishments as to what the laws are regarding alcohol sales to intoxicated individuals. The officers also educate these establishments how to identify a fake identification card.
