Norman Michael Montion, Detective
Born: March 2, 1947
End of Watch: October 17, 1989

Detective Norman Montion died Monday afternoon after a shooting spree that killed four. On October 17th, 1989, Detective Montion had gone to the office of his business called Police Officer Promotions. While at the office, a former business partner, Richard Stratton, went to the office armed with a handgun. He walked up to Detective Montion, who was at his desk, and began shooting, striking Detective Montion 3 times. Sergio Munoz, an employee of the business, jumped Stratton and took him to the floor. During the struggle, Stratton shot and killed Munoz. Critically wounded, Detective Montion drew his service weapon and return fire after Stratton had shot Munoz. Stratton died instantly at the scene. Detective Montion was taken to R.E. Thomason Hospital where he died an hour and a half later. Detective Montion, a detective with the Burglary Division, was on duty at the time of the shooting, but had stopped by during his lunch time to do business. Detectives investigating the case later found Stratton’s wife dead in their home, apparently the first victim to die in Stratton’s shooting spree. Detective Montion was a 17- year veteran of the Department and was survived by his wife a son and two daughters. Source: El Paso Times
