EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso Police Department would like to inform the citizens of El Paso on the following crime trends. The objective of this document is to inform our public of the latest crime trends and crime prevention tips for Burglaries of Vehicle/Habitation and Sexual Assaults. Our records show an increase of burglary of vehicles and sexual assaults. The burglary of vehicles is concentrated in the Viscount area and the sexual assaults have no particular location. Twenty Six sexual assaults have been reported since January 2009, twelve of which are alcohol related. Of the twelve seven are strangers and a total of eleven from the twenty six are known offenders. 1) Install kill switch
2) Do Not leave vehicle unattended with engine running or keys on ignition switch.
3) Secure vehicle at all times.
4) Park in well lit areas.
5) Take you keys.
6) Hide your valuables.

SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION TIPS
1) Trust your instincts, if a situation makes you uncomfortable leave.
2) Be alert of your surroundings and the people around you.
3) Walk confidently and with a steady pace.
4) Always let someone know where you are and where you intend to go & with whom.
5) Do not leave drinks unattended.
6) Drink responsibly.
7) Don’t share drinks.
8) Don’t accept open drinks, especially from strangers.
Summer is here and we tend to leave windows and garage doors open. PLEASE secure all entrances to your home and business, help us reduce crime. Our crime prevention officers are available for home inspections at no cost to you. Should you pass the inspection a certificate will be mailed to you from the TEXAS DEPARTMENT of INSURANCE which can be applied to your home insurance. Contact your insurance agent to see if you qualify for this discount.
For information on starting a Neighborhood Watch Program in your block contact your Crime Prevention Officer at your nearest Police Regional Command Center. The Neighborhood Watch Program is a partnership between citizens and the police department in an effort to combat crime. During said program the citizen report to police suspicious activities and crimes taking place.
