WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?
Domestic violence” or
“family violence” means an act by a member of a family or
household against another member that is intended to result
in physical harm, bodily injury, assault, sexual assault,
or a threat that places that member in fear of such harm.
Family or household members
must:

be related by marriage – either traditional
or common law (spouse);

be former spouses;
-
be related by blood (parents, children);
-
be members of the same household (roommates);
-
be former members of the same household;
-
be the biological parents of a child,
whether or not they are married or never lived together;
or be the foster parents of a child.

MISSION OF THE EL
PASO POLICE DEPARTMENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE UNIT
To provide the employees
of the El Paso Police Department with proper training in domestic
violence issues - including proper response, officer safety,
empathy for victims; and provide information on domestic violence
to the general public, media, community organizations, educational
and medical institutions to increase public awareness.

Attend meetings and forums dealing
with domestic violence

Research domestic violence issues

Review all domestic violence cases
reported to the Department

Assist Department employees, the general
public, the media, and other agencies with information
on domestic violence

Conduct shift meetings for Department
employees on current domestic violence issues
