Career Advancement

The El Paso Police Department offers a myriad of assignments. After two years of successful employment, Police Officers may move into specialized areas such as Traffic, Bicycle Patrol or Crime Scene. After two years, the officer is also eligible to take the Detective promotional exam. Detectives may be assigned to investigate Child Abuse, Homicide, Robberies, Burglaries, Auto Theft, Family Violence cases, etc. After fours years of service, officers may take the promotional exam for Sergeant.
