The City of El Paso has created a
comprehensive retirement plan for its employees. This plan is
called the El Paso City Employees' Pension Fund ("the Plan").
This plan is the type that is commonly referred to as a “defined
benefit plan”. It is funded by contributions made by the City of
El Paso and by the participants. For financial reporting purposes the
plan operates on the City’s fiscal year which ends on August 31.
This website describes the Plan. It also explains how you earn a
pension and what steps you need to take to claim your benefit. There is
also additional information about the Plan, the Board of Trustees and
the Pension Fund Staff.
Most employees of the City of El Paso are either required or permitted
to participate in the Plan. However, policemen, and firemen
covered by either the Policemen's or Firemen's Pension Funds may not
participate in this plan. There are other special eligibility
provisions which apply to certain groups, such as permanent part-time
employees and grant-funded employees. If you have any questions
regarding your eligibility, please contact a Benefits/Budget
(915) 541-4260 or (915) 541-4765 for a full description of the applicable provisions and
We recommend that you take the time to read the pages in this site so
that you and your family will know what benefits are provided by the
Plan and how they are determined. If you have any questions
about the Plan or desire additional information on any point, do not
