We proudly use the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program and offer classes from Level 1 to Level 6. In addition, we offer classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and adults. All classes run for 30 minutes. All classes are held at different aquatic centers during the winter months and at all indoor aquatic centers during the summer months. Class Descriptions

Parent and Child Aquatics

INFANT (6-18 months) This class for parent and child is designed to teach parents how to work safely and effectively with their infant to provide a safe environment, so that, he or she can develop water adjustment skills and have fun in the water. Class ratio is 1:15.
TODDLER (18-48 months) The focus of this class is to teach skills learned in the infant level and progress to more advanced skills that are age appropriate for a toddler. Again, parent and child will be working together in the water. Class ratio is 1:15.
PRESCHOOL (4-5 years) Students in this class will learn basic water adjustment skills with an emphasis on play to prepare them for comfort in the water for Level 1 & 2. It is designed to teach swimmer independence without the involvement of parents, initial play in the wading pool and progression to the main pool when students are ready. Class ratio is 1:6.

ADVANCED PRESCHOOL (4-5 years) The advanced preschool is like the preschool class, but will have students start to work on level 1 material at an earlier age. Students must have taken the preschool class to enroll.

LEVEL 1 & 2 (6-13 years) Swimmers will start to learn basic water exploration and swimming skills. This class covers submersion under the water, floating & gliding on front & back, rhythmic breathing, safety & survival skills, and front & back crawls at a beginner level. Students receive certification after passing the required skills test. Class ratio is 1:6.

LEVEL 3 (must complete prior level or equivalent skills) This class is designed to build upon skills learned at Levels 1 & 2. The back crawl will be introduced and the front & back crawls will be perfected. Students will learn to tread water. Safety & survival skills will be expanded. Students can receive certification after passing the required skills test. Class ratio is 1:6.

LEVEL 4 (must complete prior level or equivalent skills) This class is designed to build upon the skills mastered at Level 3. Students develop more endurance to swim greater distances. Breaststroke and sidestroke are taught. Students can receive certification after passing the required skills test. Class ratio is 1:6.

LEVEL 5 (must complete prior level or equivalent skills Participants coordinate & refine the key strokes: front crawl, elementary backstroke, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, work on turns, dives and treading water. Class ratio is 1:8.

LEVEL 6 (must complete prior level or equivalent skills) Participants coordinate & refine the key strokes: front crawl, elementary backstroke, back crawl, sidestroke, and breaststroke with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness and over greater distances. Also, introduces other aquatic activities and offers three option _ Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving and Fitness Swimmer. Class ration is 1:10.

Adult Beginner (14 years to adult) This class is for adult swimmers who either want to overcome their fear of the water or who are comfortable in the water, but would like to improve their strokes. Class ration is 1:6.

Water Safety Instructor Class
Are you interested in learning how to teach swim lessons with the potential to earn more than $10 an hour? The American Red Cross class in Water Safety Instruction will get you certified to teach swim lessons with the potential to earn up to $10 an hour. Water Safety Instructors can teach in the City of El Paso Swim Lesson Program. Each summer session lasts two weeks (Monday – Thursday) which totals eight classes of 30 minutes each. Fall, Winter, and Spring Season classes are offered on a monthly basis with classes held twice a week to total eight classes.

Private classes are also available in 30 minute increments.

Some levels will require completion of a lower level or instructor placement in order for participant registration.
