  ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Duties:  The ASAC shall perform those duties specified in Chapter 823, Texas Health and Safety Code, and applicable state regulations, as from time to time may be amended. In performing the statutory duties, the ASAC shall provide guidance and advice to all of the animal shelters located within the City of El Paso, and when authorized by an Interlocal Agreement, the County of El Paso or other municipalities located within the County of El Paso, regarding compliance by the shelters with the requirements of Chapter 823, Texas Health and Safety Code and applicable state regulations;shall annually prepare and provide written report to the city Council that provides information regarding the performance of the statutorily required duties by the ASAC.
Qualifications:  Shall meet the qualifications required by Section 823.005(b) Texas Health & Safety Code. Of these 18 members at least (1) shall be a licensed veterinarian, (1) shall be a County or City official, (1) shall be a person whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter and (1) shall be a representative from an animal welfare organization.
Seats:  18 regular members. Each city council member shall each nominate the appointment of two members, with the appointments approved by the City Council in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter.
Term:  2 years and shall begin on the first day of February 2009. Each term shall commence on the expiration date of the term of the immediate predecessor.
Term Limits: Shall not be subject to the term limitation provisions contained in Section 2.04.050 of the El Paso City Code.

Meeting times:  March 19, July 16 and November 19, 2009 (these are the only meetings this committee will have, to fulfill the legal requirement). All meetings start at 6:00 p.m. and end by 8:00 p.m. and held in the City Hall, Second floor - Conference room.
