Lecture Series
The free lecture series is offered in collaboration with the El Paso Public Library-Downtown with the purpose of heightening awareness on the historical events and important characters that played a pivotal role in the unfolding of the Mexican Revolution in El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, and the rest of México. In El Paso, lectures will be presented in English and Spanish alternately at:

Biography of Juan Holguín Rodriguez

"Cuentos y Relatos de la Revolucion Mexicana" (Tales and Narrations on the Mexican Revolution) with author Juan Holguin.
Mr. Holguin will transport listeners back in time through the several very interesting tales and narratives of the Mexican revolution. Mr. Holguin is a prolific and well know author. He has written several books including: "El Ultimo Dorado" "Puente Negro" "El General de los Milagros" "Una Flor de Pancho Villa' and other works.

Gringos' Curve with author Christopher Lance Habermeyer
Mr. Lance will discuss his latest book entitled Gringos' Curve. His book deals with the American mining industry's control over properties in the state of Chihuahua, specifically "La Cusi Mining Company", during the Mexican Revolution. Pancho Villa, spurned by the U.S. and president Woodrow Wilson in favor of Venustiano Carranza, set in motion a series of guerilla attacks in revenge against anything American, including murder.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007 - The Mexican Revolution in El Paso by El Paso historian Fred Morales
Mr. Morales will talk about some important events that took place in El Paso during the Mexican Revolution. Fred Morales is a life long resident of El Paso. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1972 and from UTEP in 1980. He founded the Chihuahuita Improvement Association in 1975 and served as a Vista Volunteer for four years. Currently he is the Curator of the El Paso/Juarez Historical Museum, founded in 1993. He is the author of fifteen books that deal with the history of the El Paso/Juarez area.
Biography of Dr. Troy Ainsworth
Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - "Boredom, Fatigue, Illness, and Death: The U.S. National Guard and the Militarization of the Texas-Mexico Border, 1916-1917" presented by Dr. Troy Ainsworth.
Dr. Ainsworth will present an Anglo perspective on the Mexican Revolution. He will discuss President Wilson and Secretary of War Newton C. Baker's order to mobilize and deploy the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border in June 1916 in direct response to raids, such as the one at Columbus, New Mexico, that had been occurring along the international boundary and to protect American citizens. The contents of this presentation demonstrate an aspect of the Mexican Revolution, particularly its impact on the United States and the near outbreak of war between the two nations.
