Mission

The mission of the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) is to assist in developing a world-class arts community in El Paso, Texas. To accomplish this goal the MCAD has established The Museums Division comprised of the El Paso Museum of Art, the El Paso Museum of Archaeology and the El Paso Museum of History each dedicated to providing exhibitions and educational activities that recognize the region's multi-cultural heritage and contributors. The Cultural Affairs Division implements funding programs, public art programs, cultural tourism initiatives and performing/visual arts events that provide a variety of opportunities to engage in arts and cultural activities that enliven and celebrate the City of El Paso and the region. The Museums and Cultural Affairs Department is committed to the continued development of the City's arts industry, providing quality programs that are representative of the city's diverse cultures; and to maximizing available resources in order to enhance the city's cultural vitality.



Call to Chalk Artists!
Chalk the Block Public Art Street Festival 2010
Application Deadline EXTENDED: September 10, 2010


Calling all artists! The City of El Paso’s Public Art Program and the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department is looking for local and regional artists who would like to produce chalk art on the city sidewalks of Downtown El Paso as part of the Third Annual Public Art Street Festival titled “Chalk the Block.”

Participation is open to all artists, who reside in El Paso, Las Cruces, and Ciudad Juarez. Interested artists may choose to apply as a Feature, Showcase, or High School Artist or Artist Team. Each category will be competing for a First, Second, and Third Place cash prize, and be considered for a Best of ShowAward.

The event will be held on October 8, 9, and 10! Spaces will be limited, so apply today!

Interested artists are encouraged to apply online at www.callforentry.org. Applications will be taken through Friday, September 10th and those winning artists selected to participate will be announced by September 17th. Call for Arts Vendors
Chalk the Block 2010, October 8-10
Application Deadline : Thursday, September 2, 2010


El Paso, TX The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) is looking for arts and crafts vendors for its 3 rd Annual Chalk the Block Public Art Festival happening October 8-10, 2010 in Downtown El Paso. 
 
Vendors will be part of the event on Saturday, October 9 from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  All arts and crafts vendors are encouraged to apply. To download the application PDF-FILE [click here].
 
All artwork must be original and hand-made by the applicant or with the use of appropriate tools.  Booth may include original artwork.  No additional items may be sold (i.e. water, candy, etc.). The event is a family friendly event and artwork must be appropriate for the venue.
 
Applicants will be notified of their selection by September 9, 2010.
 
Booth Fee Schedule (non-refundable) :
$   25.00   for artist
$   10.00   for student artists (school ID or photocopy required)

El Paso, TX – The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) is looking for volunteers for its 3rd Annual Chalk the Block Public Art Festival taking place October 8-10, 2010 in Downtown El Paso.

Volunteers must be 21 and over and must submit to a background check provided by the City of El Paso at no cost. Different commitment levels are available to accommodate all volunteers. Interested individuals should contact Erika Villegas at (915) 541-4280.

About Chalk the Block

The City of El Paso’s Public Art Program and the MCAD in partnership with the El Paso Community Foundation, will host an extraordinary event to attract and invite seasoned and emerging visual artists to use chalk to create works of art on the city sidewalks of downtown El Paso. We expect nearly 25,000 El Pasoans and tourists to descend upon Arts Festival Plaza and our satellite locations of Cleveland Square, San Jacinto Plaza and Pioneer Plaza.

Chalk the Block is a fun-filled event and hosting entertaining activities for people of all ages, including the KIDZONE, skate park, an interactive public chalk area, art vendors, live music and performances, great food, chalk art competitions, and much more!
