Character Qualities of the Month – FAITH AND RESPONSIBILITY
Faith is the confidence that actions rooted in good character will yield the best outcome, even when I cannot see how. The opposite of faith is presumption.
Responsibility is one of our character focuses this month, it means knowing and doing what is expected of me. The opposite is unreliability.

FLU PREVENTION CAMPAIGN
This flu season there are more uncertainties than usual because of the Pandemic Influenza (H1N1) 2009. While is not possible to predict the severity of this flu season, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health recommends that citizens get their yearly seasonal flu vaccine to shield themselves from some of the circulating flu viruses. Annually, influenza causes more than 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths in the United States.
“This is the most important step in protecting yourself against seasonal influenza,” said Roxann Parks, R.N., B.S.N., who oversees the public health department’s Immunization Program. Citizens should make arrangements with their health-care provider for the seasonal flu vaccine. Vaccination is especially important for people at high risk of serious flu complications, including young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease and people 65 years and older. While there are many different flu viruses, the seasonal flu vaccine protects against the three seasonal viruses that research suggests will be most common. A seasonal vaccine will not protect you against the H1N1 virus. An H1N1 vaccine should be available by mid-October.
