Accomplishments:
The Cook Administration has placed a major emphasis on improving our mass transit system. We started out with a system that was both antiquated and under funded. Since 2005, we have been aggressive in getting funding from Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to upgrade our system. We can complete the development of a Rapid Transit System (RTS) with hubs in five areas of the city. The hubs will interconnect via Express Services. Local circulators will operate within the regional hubs. As part of assuring this RTS will become a reality, we have committed $40 million to build a new transit facilities and to develop our first ever Express Route we have name Smart 101. This express service is the precursor of our started Rapid Transit System. 80% of the funding comes from FTA dollars.
