DID YOU KNOW…
Facts about blood donation

  • Less than 5% of the eligible population donates blood in the U.S. each year. This is equivalent to one person for every 20. Because of this, blood banks such as United Blood Services have a difficult time maintaining an adequate blood supply.
  • It is estimated that one of every 20 Americans will require a blood transfusion at some points in their lives. This means that the chances are very high hat someone we know will receive blood or blood components at some point.
  • Blood is perishable and last only 42 days, so blood center require a constant supply of blood donors.
  • Throughout the El Paso Community, 170 points of blood/blood donations are needed every day to keep up with hospital demands. However, only 70-80 donations are collected each day.
  • United Blood Services is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit, self-supporting community blood centers. Founded in 1943 in Phoenix, Arizona, today UBS serves more than 13 million people in a geographic area one-third the size of the U.S.
  • YOU can make a difference…the POWER OF ONE!
