The $368 million Spur 601 project is testimony that El Paso’s Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority and the TxDOT are working with the City to improve its transportation infrastructure. The City is committed to working in tandem with the local mobility entities to find unique methods of financing. One noteworthy accomplishment is the City’s creation of the State’s first Transportation Reinvestment Zone. The TRZ will index today’s tax values around a transportation project and dedicate any increased tax revenues as the city’s participation into the project. Additionally, the City will be receiving upwards of $96 million for highway improvements and $15 million in transit funding through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act.
