The El Paso Public Library will be
displaying segments of the Chicano
Collection from the El Paso Museum
of Art during 2009 - 2010.
Special events have also planned at
the
Libraries in celebration of this
exhibit |
"Collecting Chicano art has always
been one of the greatest joys of my
life. To be able to see the story of
a particular culture displayed in
paintings is an event that only
happens very few times in history.
Besides the individual joy of
discovering a new painter or new
paintings, I am particularly
gratified to be able to bring that
same joy to the rest of the world.
There are many arguments as to what
Chicano art is and isn’t. Everybody
has a theory and an opinion. The
important thing is that the
discussion has begin in earnest and
has spread across the nation—and
soon the rest of the world. |

|
At a
time when 95% of the country does
not know what a “Chicano” is much
less what their art looks like, “The
Chicano Collection” stands as an
invaluable resource document that
will provide firsthand knowledge of
this important school of art.
I can think of no greater gift than
the gift of art as our token of
introduction. I am exceedingly
grateful to be able to share it with
all of you."
