Television is
Going Digital: Get the Picture |
| |
Big changes are coming to your television.
But they have nothing to do with summer
re-runs or the new fall season. These
changes involve the transition to digital
broadcasting on February 17, 2009.

Promising Debt Relief May Be Offering
Bankruptcy |
| |
Debt got you down? You’re not alone.
Consumer debt is at an all-time high.
Whether your debt dilemma is the result of
an illness, unemployment, or simply
overspending, it can seem overwhelming. In
your effort to get solvent, be on the alert
for advertisements that offer seemingly
quick fixes. While the ads pitch the promise
of debt relief, they rarely say relief may
be spelled b-a-n-k-r-u-p-t-c-y.

Fake Credit
Report Sites: Cashing in on Your Personal
Information |
| |
You may have seen Web sites or received
unsolicited email offering credit reports,
sometimes for free. Be aware that some of
these online operators may not actually
provide credit reports, but may be using
these sites as a way to capture your
personal information. From there, they may
sell your information to others who may use
it commit fraud, including identity theft.

Curious About
Cancer Treatments?: Talk to Your Doctor
First |
| |
If you or someone you love has cancer,
chances are you’re sorting through mountains
of information and facing many decisions
about various treatment options. And you may
be curious about supposed miraculous
cancer-fighting products — pills, powders,
herbs, and more — that you’ve either seen
advertised or heard about from family and
friends. Be skeptical: Lots of these are
scams, and when you’re battling cancer, the
last thing you need is a scam.

Botnets and
Hackers and Spam (Oh, My!) |
| |
Hackers and spammers may be using your
computer right now. They invade secretly and
hide software to get access to the
information on your computer, including your
email program. Once on your computer, they
can spy on your Internet surfing, steal your
personal information, and use your computer
to send spam — potentially offensive or
illegal — to other computers without your
knowledge.

War Without Oil:
a Catalyst for True Transformation |
| |
By examining current and projected global
energy/security environments, the energy
roles of various branches of the Federal
Government, and the unique responsibilities
and characteristics of the DoD as America’s
largest single energy consumer and security
instrument of national power, the author
analyzes whether a methodology exists in
which the DoD can lead an immediate,
coherent, and viable long-term strategy
toward a vision of replacing petroleum as
its primary energy source while maintaining
all necessary strategic and operational
capability to guarantee U.S. security to
2050 and beyond.
