Look Below This month's new titles include several publications from the Texas Legislature.  Read about some of the issues that were discussed such as red-light cameras, immigration enforcement, and changes to sex offender laws.  We also have some new material on hunting, real estate, deaf blindness, and more.  Come check it out!
Texas Property Tax Law Changes 2007 (TX Comptroller of Public Accounts)
  Read summaries of the bills passed in the last year that have affected the property tax laws.
Managing Nonpoint Source Pollution in Texas (TX Commission on Environmental Quality)
  "Nonpoint source pollution occurs when rainfall runoff from urban and agricultural lands carries pollutants such as fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, oil, grease, sediments, and animal wastes into streams, lakes, bays and aquifers."--Read this report to learn about projects that are aimed at reducing this type of pollution.
Major Issues of the 80th Legislature, Regular Session (TX House of Representatives)
  This focus report provides summaries of some of the major bills that were considered in the most recent legislative session.  Each summary also includes supporting and opposing arguments.
Red-light Cameras in Texas : A Status Report (TX House of Representatives)
  This special report focuses on the red-light cameras that have been installed in many cities across Texas.  It examines their effectiveness and compares it to other states that have similar programs in place.
Should Texas Change Its Laws Dealing With Sex Offenders? (TX House of Representatives)
  This report gives an overview of current sex offender laws and discusses some new legislation being considered in this area.
The Role of States in Immigration Enforcement (TX House of Representatives)
  This special report discusses the issue of illegal immigration and the ongoing debate between federal and state enforcement efforts.
TX SenseAbilities (TX School for the Blind & Visually Impaired)
  This publication provides information on visual impairments and deaf blindness.  In the most recent issue, there are some stories of young people dealing with deaf blindness.
Tierra Grande (TX A&M University--Real Estate Center)
  The Fall 2007 issue has a wonderful article on Galveston's Seawall Boulevard, some advice on installing boundary fences on property, and information about environmentally-friendly properties that are becoming profitable.
Public Dove Hunting Areas and Other Small Game Leases (TX Parks & Wildlife Dept.)
  Hunters will want to check this publication to find out where and what to hunt in the upcoming year.  Each entry includes a map, a list of permits necessary, what game is legal, the season duration, and any special regulations that apply.
Texas Unclaimed Property 2007 (TX Comptroller of Public Accounts)
  This annual listing includes unclaimed checks, deposits, refunds and other valuables that have been reported to the state.  It lists the name of the individuals according to county.
Texas Senators, 80th Legislature 2007 (TX Senate)
  This pamphlet lists biographical and contact information for all of the Texas senators of the 80th legislature.
TELEMASP Bulletin (Sam Houston State University)
  In the November/December 2007 issue of this law enforcement newsletter, there is an article on bicycles and horses used in police units.
Immunization Requirements for Children and Students (TX Dept. of State Health Services)
  This booklet outlines the immunizations required for students in public and private schools, child-care facilities, and institutions of higher education.
Buchanan Dam : The Birthplace of LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority)
  This booklet contains historical information and photographs about the Buchanan Dam on the Colorado River of Texas.
