Each year, the El Paso Public
Library sponsors a poetry
contest for children in grades 1
- 12 from the El Paso area. This
year marked the 17th anniversary
of the contest that began in
order to encourage children to
express themselves creatively
and to help cultivate in them a
love of literacy. |
 |
|
 |
Over 600 poems were submitted in
2007 representing every grade level. The
poems were judged by library
staff members, teachers, EPCC
librarians, and community
members.
Awards for the winners
from grades 1-6 will be presented at a
special ceremony on Wednesday, March 28,
2007 at 6:00 pm at the Main
Library Auditorium. |
|
The awards ceremony for teens in
grades 7-12 will be held a week later on
Wednesday, April 4, 2007 also at the Main Library
Auditorium.
Awards will be given in each
grade level, in English and
Spanish. Many of the winners
will read their poems out loud
to the people in attendance. |
