2007 Poetry Contest
Each year, the El Paso Public Library sponsors a poetry contest for children in grades 1 - 12 from the El Paso area. This year marked the 17th anniversary of the contest that began in order to encourage children to express themselves creatively and to help cultivate in them a love of literacy. Star
Star Over 600 poems were submitted in 2007 representing every grade level. The poems were judged by library staff members, teachers, EPCC librarians, and community members.

Awards for the winners from grades 1-6 will be presented at a special ceremony on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 6:00 pm at the Main Library Auditorium.
The awards ceremony for teens in grades 7-12 will be held a week later on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 also at the Main Library Auditorium.

Awards will be given in each grade level, in English and Spanish. Many of the winners will read their poems out loud to the people in attendance.
