The El Paso
Public Library is currently hosting a
photographic exhibit that compares the
indigenous people of China with people
of Guatemala. The exhibit entitled ‘The
Face of Two Nations’ is the brainchild
of local photographer Marcos Casiano who
was impacted by the similarity of the
faces he found in these two very
different places. The exhibit will
remain in the Main Library’s new art
gallery until the end of March. The
exhibit is free and open to the public.
Some
historians believe that human beings did
not evolve in North or South America but
instead arrived by sea or by a land
bridge (the Bering Strait) that formerly
connected North America with Asia. Most
(if not all) of those indigenous peoples
descended from peoples living in
Siberia, entering North America at least
12,000 years ago.
Born in Verdun, France, Marcos spent his
early years traveling with his family
through Europe, Puerto Rico and the
United States—following his father who
was in the U.S. Army. His family moved
to El Paso and Marcos graduated from
Eastwood High School.
In 1975, at the age of 18, he left for
Nashville to begin his musical career
playing drums with a variety of bands.
Marcos returned to El Paso in August of
2001 to pursue a career in music. The
beauty of our El Paso area rekindled his
earlier interest in photography, leading
to an international career that has
taken him on photo shoots throughout the
Southwest, Latin America, Europe and
China.
Marcos’ work has been exhibited at
various locations within the El Paso
(TX) Public Library system, the City of
El Paso People’s Gallery, the
Winton/Flair Gallery, and at the Idea
Gallery in downtown El Paso.
