My Puppy

My puppy is cute,
She protects me a lot.
When she was little, she could fit in my boot.
When she wants something from me, most of the time,
She makes her cute little eyes,
At least she tries, Right?
I love my dog “Brownie” and if you don’t believe me
Try me!

Play Another Day

I like to play,
Everyday,
But when I do,
My grades decay.

When I play,
It leads me astray,
And all my homework,
I delay.

When you get work,
You should grind away,
If you don’t
You’ll have hell to pay.

If you have an essay,
About Chile or Pompeii,
You definitely can’t,
Push that away.

But after May,
I really pray,
That I can play
Everyday.

What Makes You Happy?

A friendly face,
A girl named Grace.
A diamond or a pillowcase?
A trip to Maine by train or plane.
A brand new flower for every hour.

If that’s what makes you happy…

Give a cheer,
let’s be happy all year!!!

Winter Storm

Dancing flurries blow over the frozen road,
Glistening icicles grow in the midnight cold,
Sparkling snowflakes settle on my furry coat,
Freezing raindrops bounce off the red light pole.

Slippery roads can put everything on hold,
Leaving cars and trucks with heaping loads,
Our lives are not always in our control,
We must learn to be patient and bold.

Friends

Friends are like stars
That twinkle joy into lives
Like a moon
That reflects your fun
Or like a sun
That warms you with laughter
They are like the colors of the rainbow
Each color making you smile in a way that’s unique
Helping you during the sad, bad, and rainy times
True friends are worth more than emeralds, gold, or rubies
The best of friends come from the unexpected
Like a shining diamond comes from a lump of coal
Friends just like gems can be lost
So remember to watch out…

Reading

Reading is like a journey
A ride that never
Stops.
It is like a fish
Swimming in the ocean
Thoughts continuously swimming
Inside my head.
The words as soft as a whisper in
The wind
Sweeping me up in the breeze.
Reading is like a sweet, sweet
Song
Singing its way to my heart!
It is like a door
That leads me to a world
Beyond belief!

Seasons

Leaves fall one by one to the ground,
Raked up into a big, messy mound.
You guessed it, I’m thinking of fall.
This season is always a ball.
Winter comes soon after, we all know.
Playing is a blast, when in the snow.
Wrapped up in blankets warm and snug.
Drinking hot cocoa from our mug.
The robin sings and flowers bloom.
The night is clear with a full moon.
The signs say that spring is here,
And approaching summer is near.
It is hot and school is over.
Out of town to visit Dover.
They are our many seasons.
The description you hear,
They go by and by the same every year.

Six Feet Under

She stood in the rain, drenching wet
For she wasn’t used to rejection quite yet.
She felt her heart fall, break, then shatter.
She felt lost in this world,
As if she no longer mattered.
She was soon overcome by the evils of depression,
And started in her daily cutting sessions.
Every night her sobs, whimpers, and cries,
Would eventually close her darkening eyes.
Time moved on—but she could not,
Suicide shadowed her every thought.
Until finally it was not something she would just imagine.
She swallowed her pills; she would make her death happen.
She became drowsy until she could see no more.
She closed her eyes and fell to the floor.
She soon awoke in a hospital bed,
Suddenly realizing she was not yet dead.
She began to cry; she had made a mistake!
She wanted to live but it was now too late.
Her head was throbbing in pain,
As death ran its course all through her veins.
Her life was gone as quick as thunder
And now she lies
Six feet under

The Rose

Dad walked out with the hose,
But later he walked in with a rose.
“Children come close,
And see this rose,
This beautiful rose,
This splendid rose,
This perfect rose,
It makes me so happy, right down to my toes.”

“Please,” said Sam. “Please,
It’s making me sneeze.
My tummy feel queeze,
I have weak knees.”
“Stop,” said my father. “This is a tease,
Sam, stop this, please.
Don’t sneeze,
Or feel queeze, please.”

When the baby was fed,
Mother said, “Fred,
I see that for the rose you care,
So then I’ll be fair.
Put the rose in a pot,
Pour in the soil that I bought.
And Sam, touch it not,
But then, Fred, you can see it a lot.”

“Yes, mother is right,
So do not fight,
But keep it in sight,
And all will be right.”

So they listened to me,
For I made them see,
That this was the key,
To make peace in the family.

They wore the mask
Never letting anything through
They wore the mask
Through all the work they had to do
They wore the mask

They wore the mask

They wore the mask

They wore the mask
To be told about others free
They wore the mask
Can you not see?
They wore the mask

I Remember Blood, Darkness, and Death!!!

It was a rainy night, the 13th one in October to be exact.
I remember apologizing and saying a silent and
depressing bye-won’t see-you-later-farewell.
They asked for if everything’s right and the last lie slipped like melting ice,
out of my mouth.
A big container would hold my red-mercury-liquid,
For as long as my remnant was kept safe from any blood thirsty demons.

I remember how stars seemed to be falling like rain.
I remember them saying how I would sooner or later be with them,
Eternally, and I’d see everything from up there,
That I would be capable of watching this miserable world end, and see hell rising,
Decomposing everything and nothing at the same time.
I remember eternal darkness crawling up my skin,
devouring my insides, giving me the creeps.

I remember an icy cold finger, guiding me through darkness, guiding me to paradise.
I remember how red and dark my blood was, every drop echoing into nothingness.
I remember the container full of red-mercury-liquid, my veins felt bloodless,
I felt a heartache, and as time went by, I felt weaker; every second, every minute.

I remember astral projecting, so high, but still so low,
there was so much, I still had to fly,
But I could still recall my lifeless body lying on the floor.
I was in miserable shape, anybody else wouldn’t have recognized me.
My face was so purple it almost looked fake,
My wrists so mauled I thought they’d just disintegrate.
The container was full, and red-mercury-liquid dripped to the floor.

I remember the moon so white and clear, it seemed like the rain had washed it.
The sky was so dark, I could barely see it.

Then a sweet-sounding music filled my ears. I deducted I was in heaven but …NO!
I was inside the reddish atmosphere of a human being!
I could feel a new heart beating in unison with mine.
A long cord of life was connecting me with a bizarre moving barrier.

Time goes by very rapidly.
Sometimes I hear voices. They say things like,
“Hello baby, I can’t wait until you’re born” and “We’ll be so happy!”
The problem is, that I’ve already forgotten what it means!
Not only that, but I’ve noticed that most of my knowledge is gone…

I never thought this is how paradise would be like, but I don’t care,
I know what this is, and I would seriously be here forever.

I don’t know how long I’ve been here, but I begin feeling uncomfortable.
The pleasure that once encircled me is now nothing more than an
obnoxious afterlife cycle.

I have a strange feeling.
Mom’s breathing too fast, havoc outside the moving barrier.
Then something pulling what feels like my legs.
As soon as I open my supposedly-eyes, I breathe differently, I feel different
And I suddenly know what this is.

My life’s begun again!!! I have another chance to enjoy my new existence!

From a house that always smells like Puerto Rican food.
I am from a place where there is no silence at all.
From a place that I can call Home Sweet Home.

I am from Yomara and Eduardo.
I am from “Behave and be careful!”
From lots of family weekends.
I am from “Take care of your brother!”
I am from a funny big family.

Second Place Heart of the Ocean

The ship was unsinkable, or so they were told,
Who knew that an iceberg would cause it to fold.
Early that morning, panic arose,
The captain smelled trouble and wrinkled his nose.

Life vests were thrown in every corridor,
So few were the life boats, they knew they’d need more.
But with an hour to spare, there wasn’t much time,
Everyone dreaded to hear the clock chime.

First class ladies went into the boats,
The night air was chilling, they grabbed their fur coats.
People were scattered ‘round the decks,
All were determined to save their own necks.

At two o’clock the ship would sink,
The captain stunned, knew not what to think.
The ship was already beginning to fall,
To America they sent a warning help call.

They said they’d arrive in four short hours,
They didn’t have the time, the ship had such power.
The boat was at an angle, almost straight up in the air,
Hanging on the rails, letting go they didn’t dare.

Quickly now the ship plunged deeper,
Down in the sea, The Atlantic now it’s keeper.
Thousands floated, some were swimming,
Any light of hope, now began dimming.

Many died that night, some bobbed like a cork,
They new they’d never see, the harbor of New York.
The few that were saved, had a sad notion,
The ship that they loved, was at the heart of the ocean.

First Place Eggplant

Curious little eggplant tell me why the weeds grow
How far do their roots reach down below?
Are their roots thin or thick?
Do they make you sick?
please eggplant I need to know

You do not need to know where the weeds grow
Nor where their roots lay
For your presence here shows that weeds forever stay
But I will tell you of other things
Of castles and far away seas
Of knights and maidens and the villains they face

But eggplant, dear eggplant
I do not need to know of castes and kings
Or of knights and their beasts
For the castle is behind me and inside lay the beast
The beast in his throne, the king at her feet

But young lady, I will tell you of far away lands
Of mountains, and valleys, and desert sands

This does not suit me and you know this is true
How can you ignore the things so clearly in front of you?
You have seen the tall tower and the locks that bind
You have seen me look for places I can not find
How can you say you know not what goes on within those walls?
The acts committed in those darkened halls?
For the beast has roots now deeper than you
Now eggplant, dear eggplant tell me this isn’t true

But maiden sweet maiden you forgot other things
Of brilliant white castles by the beautiful sea
You’ve forgotten about knights and their magnificent steeds

Oh eggplant you are blind

No I’m not

Yes you are
You’ve forgotten your roots lay here and you’re not going anywhere far
What good are your dreams of white castles and kings?
What good is something you’ll never see?

But maiden you have forgotten…

I have forgotten nothing
For I have seen the beast with the king at her feet
I’ve seen a knight lay down in defeat
I’ve looked at the moon and I’ve looked at the stars
I have dreamed of everywhere far
But there is no castle for me or a brilliant sea
Just darkened halls and a malevolent queen

Once Upon a Fairytale

Once upon a fairytale,
There was a lady and a male.

Their royal majesties met up one day
And fell in love, what’s more to say?

A happy life until the end,
Full of adventure ‘round each bend.

If only it were true somehow
That happy endings came with vows.

It is very rare, that you’ll see
Your perfect prince upon one knee.

And if even so it did come true,
He’d leave you for some Curly Sue.

It’s just not worth it, now you’ll find
They do not love you for your mind.

With a pretty slipper or long hair,
Always was the maiden fair.

Those were stories, not real life,
You’ll never be that perfect wife.

I know it hurts and it’s sad,
But real life isn’t all that bad.

And so I leave you with one thought:
Your fairytale aught not be sought.

Deadline

There it is, just winking at me.
Waiting patiently for things to do.
Unfeeling, unmoving, it waits as if,
Time does not matter. Frozen still.

The reflection on the screen tells a different tale.
It’s running up and down,
To get the task done,
Before the bells strike upon the witching hour.

It has to be sent before the day ends,
By the Information Highway.
And yet the cursor blinks on. Forever blinking.
With ardent fervor their hands beat faster.

Ticking and clicking and laying,
Their mark on the page and on the clock.
Done. It is finished and now to just click “Send”.
But behold the bells strike one.

Miscellaneous Thoughts

Panic, fear, pain, make life hard
Time moves so slowly, but passes by quickly
Wasted time escapes without warning
Friends are worthwhile, but meaningless
Love is indefinite and fearless
The door is always open leaving possibilities
Desires, needs, satisfactions—fate chooses indiscreetly
Words can be spoken, but not expressed
Emotions cradle, wonders grow
Dreams keep on coming, decisions are undecided
Concerns fade and reality takes control
Chances are given, but rarely taken
Importance is just a necessity
Righteousness helps those in need

Me ves, te vi,
Una Mirada basto para conocerte,
Una sonrisa para quererte,
Y solo un beso para amarte.

Un chico malo te creí,
Aunque eso no importó,
Porque desde que te vi,
Tu habías robado mi corazón

Para ti el amor era un juego,
Para mí un arte,
Tu me enseñaste a jugar,
Y yo te enseñé a expresarte.

Muchos se opusieron,
A nuestro bello sentimiento,

Odio. Y tu me la
Recuerdas día a día, Siento
Rabia y a la vez siento amor. Pero aun así
Espero que el amor que yo
Sentí por ti, siempre se quede aquí en mi corazón.
