The Beginning of Life

The child was more eager
than the old man
like an explorer
he was ready to know the world
His strength resembled
the old man’s youth
The child will one day
be as old and weak as him.

When I Was Eight

When I was eight
I learned to skate
With a girl named Kate
She was a great playmate
We then learned to skate
And I hurt my knee
When I hit a tree
Then we went on a sled
Where we both hit our heads
We looked at each other and said
We should go back to bed

Basketball

Basketball is cool
Basketball is fun
But there is one thing I don’t like
Is that we have to run, run, run
We do drills and drill and drills
And that gives me the skills
Basketball never gives me the chills
Because I have a friend and his name is Will
He will help me with basketball

A Wish

Last night I made a wish
And my wish did not come true,
My mom bought me a video game
And it was a PS2

She said to me “it was expensive
And what you need to do
Is take very good care of it,
And keep your grades up too.”
“And if you don’t
I’ll punish you and get a refund too.”

Mom

I love my mom
And that I know
For I have a feeling
Telling me so.

I love her hugs
and when I’m far
I know she misses
My nagging and tender kisses.

I love her stories and
I know she worries
But I’ll be fine
Her thoughts and prayers are mine.

I love her more and I adore
The time I spend with my best friend.

Blanca

who always gives off a slight scent of Marlboro Reds
whose thousands of keys jingle-jangle as she picks up the mail
whose worn hands show her regrets
whose face is full of fine dark lines of age and stress
who has cancer
who watched El Rey Leon with me six times in a row daily
whose soft warm hands massage mine
who can never find her glasses
who could care less if her clothes don’t match
whose strong legs kicked me in the middle of the night
who asks me, “Porque eres tan bonita”
whose fragile body never gives up
who can sleep for over forty eight hours straight
who is all work and no play
who fell from riches to rags
who pulled herself up from rags to riches
who survived off of forty dollars in her pocket with no place to live
who asks if I have all I need
who is my nurturer
who never fails to amaze me
who is she
who?

Untitled

All black and white,
Day and Night.

They watch undetected, but detecting
In the windows of a room.

Curled limbs, fur hot in the sun,
Relaxation is hard won.

Always have a furtive air,
Never caught unaware.

Rarely in a rush,
Always enters with a hush.

They have gone from rank of god to demon
From reverence and praise to superstition and fear.

An idol with green eyes
An enemy that makes fear rise.

Always watching,
Always waiting,
Paddling through history with tail high.

When The Rest Of Heaven Was Blue

When the rest of heaven was blue
Clouds of tears dripped through my heart.
It was like a stone in the stream
Slowing slowly through the water.
When the rest of heaven was all blue
It was like sparkles of lightning soaring in the air.
A dream of stars eaten by blankets while sitting in a loosed fire
Is all you need to think and know when the rest of heaven was blue.

But now it’s split to three parts with fire, light, and water.
Fire is hell and burns for eternity.
Light is brightest and burns your soul but not so painful as fire
And you wait for an answer.
Water is heaven not painful at all
Just so beautiful to all
Love the look of it and would not turn around for a second.
But now heaven is not all blue
Because it was split in three
Water the greatest of all and light, then fire.

Senior Year

Party!! That’s all seniors do
Those who don’t aren’t “cool”
But those who do this
Could care less about school

Deadlines are always in mind
Papers turned in at the last minute
One of these was the research paper
With more than 1,500 words in it

It’s April and time for prom
Everyone makes hotel and limo reservations
Too much money has to be spent
But who cares? It’s time for celebration

Next is the senior trip
Where everyone will go crazy
The ride there and back is long
I’m sure it’ll be boring and lazy

May is just around the corner
It is time for graduation
Streams of tears and hugs are given
I will miss my generation

Shoes

Shoes, Shoes
Where are my shoes?
Can’t you at least
Give me some clues?
I’ve always wanted
More and More

My shoes are so light
They let me soar
I have three pairs
Maybe four

I have shoes
That I adore
I have shoes
In every color
I can talk
And I can mutter
All day
About my shoes

Please give me some clues
Of the location of my shoes

The Glass

He looks at the glass
“half full to me
cause if you want to see the sun shining high
no matter what is and how hard it may be
you have to turn your head to the sky”

The other one said
“half empty it is
and nothing’s gonna change my mind
desperately I searched for realms of bliss
wasted time to find nothing of that kind”

I see the glass
And I must say
“Those two choices won’t get us nowhere
this glass is full don’t you see it that way
One half with water the other with air”

Want to Live!

I lay in bed in the middle of the night,
Not afraid that there is no light.
Because as long as I’m in my cozy bed,
I’ll be safe from the dead.
I’ll stay in bed as long as I live,
Because there’s so much life has to give.
I want to live yes oh yes,
Because once I die it’ll be such a mess.
Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! The day is here!
I’m so happy, I sense a tear.
Because death is not near.

Jessica

My best friend Jessica.
She is tall and nice.
She runs fast like the wind every time.
My friend helps me a lot.
Even her puppy plays with mine.
Always together like ice cream
And cone.
My friend Jessica my sister at heart.

Here Comes the Spring

Here comes the Spring, and comes
Back and forth the wind.
The flowers grow,
The grass grows
Big and bright.

I can hear the birds singing,
Out my window.
Here comes the spring,
Out in my window.
And it’s right here at my corner.
I could see the bright sun too!

Mom

Mom I know you are sad
That doesn't make me glad.
But, I just want to know why did you have to go?
You would leave me alone
and all on my own.
You could make me cry
That isn't a surprise.
Now you are gone
I am very sad
because
You were the only one
I have ever had.

I Am an Old Story Book

My pages torn and folded
My cover old and dusty
My words faded now
I am an old, dusty story book
hoping to stay put together
struggling not to fall apart
holding on to every page
to be read again, I hope

My Violin

My violin is the tool that I use to speak
With its divine sound which makes one weak.
It speaks what no poem, expression or words could ever describe
Of our deepest emotions and dreams we treasure inside.

For the violin has nothing to conceal
But rather it ardently sings to reveal,
Volumes of love, nature, and delight
To fear, anger, and feelings that ignite.

To my violin, I always find myself returning
Because of its secrets and magic I will never stop learning.

A Donut Shop

An old pachuko works tirelessly in a donut shop
Baking empty space in the center of a sweet satisfying bread
Decorated with battle scars and a bandana on his head
An old warrior searching for peace
A beard whiter than snow showing his wisdom
An old wolf, all seeing and all knowing
Enjoys the company of his customers
Asking really easy questions
Or giving non-complicated suggestion
He’s an old pachuko that works tirelessly in a donut shop
Too much pride to retire
Yea, I think he’s happy where he is
He knows he is one of a kind
Part of a generation of real people
Do you know who he is?
He’s an old pachuko who works tirelessly in a donut shop.

Darkness

If the darkness brushes
your heart do not be
aware. For if you notice,
it will start to rip you
tear, by tear. Harden your
Heart, to its cold, hurtful touch
and do not feel the fear.
For if you start, it will gain hold
Of your heart, and you will never be aware.

Papel Blanco

Papel blanco
papel rayado
tú con tus líneas me inspiras tanto.
Tú que en las escuelas
siempre te quedas.
Tú,
el necesitado de todos los niños.
Tú,
que en las tareas no tiras un paro.
Papel blanco
papel rayado
que ya te he usado,
que ya te he doblado.
A veces,
hasta te he destrozado.
Te necesito más cuando la maestra te pide,
y encontrarte no puedo,
y solo me queda pedir que te presten.
