Poetry Contest Information
|
|
The El Paso
Public Library annually sponsors a poetry contest for children
in grades
1st through 12th in the El Paso, Texas area.
This year we will celebrate our eighteenth year!
The children may write the poems in either English
or Spanish.
The awards are given to each grade level and for each
language.
The entry forms are available in December or
January
and are distributed to area schools.
The entry forms are
also available in our libraries.

Rules
|
| |
 |
Students in grades 1 – 12 in the
El Paso, Texas
region only may enter the poetry contest. |
| |
 |
All poems must be original poetry written in
either English or Spanish by the participant. Plagiarized
poems or songs will be disqualified. |
| |
 |
Only one entry may be
submitted by each participant. If more than one entry is
received by a participant, all of the poems submitted by that
participant will be disqualified. |
| |
 |
Entries will become the property of the Library
and will not be returned. |
| |
 |
The deadline for submitting poems is Saturday,
January 31, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Poems may be submitted to any El
Paso Public Library location or
mailed to:

E-mailed entries will not be accepted.

Please include the following information with your entry:
Your name, address, phone number, school, grade, and the
El Paso Library you visit (or live nearby.) |

Winners of the poetry contest will be contacted by the El Paso
Public Library
staff with a letter mailed to the home address given.
Winners in each category will receive a new book.

Judges
|
|
The
Youth Services Staff at the El Paso Public Library would like to thank
the judges who volunteer their time and expertise in this annual event.
Judging in 2009 will be held at the Main Library February
12 - 15, 2009.
Judging in 2008 was held at the Main Library February 14 -
17, 2008.
The judges read 1266 poetry entries during this time.
