Lavonya Friday
June 12, 2004
Summer Reading has never been so much fun!
Lavonya Friday, a popular storyteller from El Paso, had
children watching her every move. But it was the
children’s faces that told the whole story.
Bringing her magic assortment of favorite books, Lavonya
reminded everyone of the joy and wonder of stories. By
acting out some of her favorites, like Helen Lester’s
“Tacky the Penguin,” Lavonya had children laughing and
waiting for more.
Lavonya had the most reluctant of children joining her in
a hilarious adaptation of the three little pigs, “The
Three Little Javelinas” by Susan Lowell. With a huff & a
puff, Lavonya brought the house
down on Northwest’s second Summer Reading Club event. |

Karaoke King
June 26, 2004
Move over American Idol. Karaoke singers at the Northwest
Library sang their heart out at Summer Reading Program
this Saturday with the Karaoke King.
A little shy at first, children soon warmed up to the
Karaoke King’s friendly and encouraging invitation to sing
to their favorite songs. The library was filled with the
sounds of popular artists like Brittany Spears and Selena.
Before long, the program was over and participants were
already asking for a repeat performance. Now even the
youngest, eagerly await the return of the Karaoke King.

February is National Cherry Month. On
February 5, 2005 the library celebrated with stories &
rhymes. And best of all – cherry pie! Sometimes life is a
bowl of cherries, one delicious bite at a time.
