The functional goal of Public Safety Technology is to insure that
newly constructed and renovated City facilities, mobile and portable
subscriber radio wireless units, and the supporting infrastructures
incorporate standardized, cost effective, state of the art communications
systems.
Pubic Safety Technology has developed clearly delineated standards
to guide the design process for campus and facility drawings for all
aspects of voice, video, data, and radio communications systems.
The division is responsible for the management and self- maintenance
of all the subscriber units of the City's Public Safety and Public
Works radio voice and data radio systems. Management of the maintenance
of all the telephone systems and the associated integrated systems,
moves, adds and changes of these systems are the responsibility of
this division. All billing for telecommunications services, network
facilities, long distance services, cellular services, coin phones
utilized by the City in addition to the management of the maintenance
contracts for public safety, public works and microwave radio systems
of the City are handled by this division.
It is the responsibility of Public Safety Technology to achieve the
levels of technical service and engineering support that will allow
critical public safety communications to continue reliably on a 24 hour
per day, 7day per week basis. It is also responsible for insuring that
facility users are provided with reliable, redundant, scalable, high-speed
access that provides a cost effecting solution to their unique requirements.
