Message from the City of El Paso Department of Public Health:
Date: January 27th
Time: 12:00 P.M.

Welcome to the City of El Paso Department of Public Health 2009 H1N1 Flu Website. We are committed to keeping the community continually informed on the current H1N1 situation.  This website is designed with the informational needs of our community in mind and we hope that you will find this site a useful and reliable resource.

Everyone is encouraged to get the H1N1 vaccine, especially pregnant women, children, young adults, caretakers of infants, and health care workers. The H1N1 vaccine is a safe and effective, way to protect yourself and your family against the H1N1 flu.

In the on-going effort to protect El Paso from the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus, the Department of Public Health is reminding parents how important it is for children younger than ten years old to receive the second dose of the H1N1 vaccine.

The fear is that parents may experience a false sense of security after having only the first dose of the vaccine administered to their children.  “The first dose of the H1N1 flu vaccine serves to prepare the child’s body.  The second dose is what really provides a child the immunity from the H1N1 virus” said Michael Hill, Health Director.

While it is recommended that a month separate the first dose from the second, if they are separated by at least 21 days, the vaccine is considered valid.  To make an appointment call the vaccination appointment line at (915) 771-5759.  Citizens are reminded that extra staff is on hand at all five local clinics, which makes it very quick and easy to get the vaccine.

Please keep visiting our website and contact us with your suggestions or concerns.
This site contains 2009 H1N1 Flu educational material that we encourage you to use for your purposes.

We thank all of our staff, all of our partner agencies and the local media for their continued support and assistance
