Preparedness planning and readiness assessment- to establish leadership, direction, assessment and coordination of activities during bioterrorism events, outbreaks of infectious diseases, and other public health threats and emergencies, and community assessment
- Surveillance and epidemiology functions to enhance, design, and develop systems for rapid detection of unusual outbreaks of illness that may be the result of bioterrorism, public health threats, and emergencies.
- Respond to mass casualty events caused by weapons of mass destruction, involving biological, chemical, and radiological agents. Provide community presentations related to biographical, chemical, and radiological agents.
- Provide Health Information Dissemination to the general public in the event of a Public Health Threat/Disaster
- Provide community presentations related to bioterrorism, preparedness issues such as shelter-in-place, smallpox awareness, bioterrorism agents, emergency kits.
- Coordinate health fairs, conferences, training opportunities and workshops to promote public health awareness on preparedness issues and emergency response
- Lead agency in the Smallpox Vaccination Program
- Maintain relationship with the Texas Department of Health (TDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with agencies involved with the Metropolitan and Medical Response System (MMRS)
