About General Services
The General Services Department provides a broad spectrum of services to other City departments. These functions include:
- Building Maintenance
- Copy Center Services
- Fleet Services
- Mail Distribution
- Utilities and Energy Management
The department is headquartered at the Municipal Service Center, 1059 Lafayette Drive, El Paso, Texas. Currently, the department has one hundred eighteen employees and oversees an operating budget in excess of $25,000,000.
General Services Department Receives the Public Works Project of the Year - Environment Award from the Texas American Public Works Association
The City of El Paso recently received the Public Works Project of the Year - Environment Award from the Texas Public Works Association for the City Wide Energy Operational Savings Program. Through a partnership with Johnson Controls, the Program calls for the implementation of infrastructure improvements and energy retrofits to existing facilities, including new heating and cooling equipment, facility management systems, and over 6,600 traffic signal upgrades. Ultimately, these changes are projected to reduce the city’s energy consumption by more than 18.6 million kilowatt hours per year representing cost savings of $20.3 million for 10 years. Beyond significant cost savings for the City, the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 11,300 tons annually.
