Fire Station No.14: 6300 Delta
|
 |
Opened February 28, 1955.
The renovation at Station 14 began in 2000, at a cost of
over $400, 000. The funds came from grant monies. The remodeling
included three bathrooms, two with showers and a handicap
bathroom expansion of the exercise room and bedroom, an additional
bay, new HVAC system, expansion and paving of the parking
lot, additional landscaping with sprinkler system, and a back
up generator. The renovations took over a year to complete.
In 2001, the station received a 1500 GPM Compressed Air Foam
System (CAFS) style pumper, the first in El Paso. This uses
air and water pressure to expel finished ‘A’ or
‘B’ type foam. The system expels a good foam regardless
of the hose length or nozzle settings. The foam can be used
on type’A’ ordinary combustible fires such as
would be found in a residential fire or trash fire. The foam
reduces surface tension on the materials which allows water
to be more readily absorbed. This results in a quicker knock
down, less water damage, and less heat and smoke that a firefighter
has to endure. Other advantages of the CAF system includes
the longer reach of hose due to the air/water pressure combination,
lighter charged hose weight.
