Certified Firefighter TraineeCandidate must have a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by completion of postsecondary Basic Firefighter and Basic Emergency Medical Technician courses. Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state. Valid Texas Class “B” Driver’s License Permit by time of entry into Academy. Candidate must possess current Texas State Commission on Fire Protection Basic Structural Firefighter Certification and Texas Department of Health Basic Emergency Medical Technician Certification at time of application. Certifications must be current and in good standing with no deficiency status. Candidate must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age and meet El Paso Fire Department pre-appointment standards including a rigid background investigation and a comprehensive medical examination with drug screening. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the written examination. Those who receive a passing score on the written examination will be invited to continue through the recruitment process. This process includes our physical agility examination, preliminary screening, background investigation, and interview. Please Note: Candidates must be successful at each stage to move forward through the process. A pre-offer medical examination and drug screening will also be performed.
