Training Academy
The El Paso Fire Department offers a media class for representatives
from the local media annually. This training helps both the
media and the department learn about each other. The class
teaches how the fire department operates on an emergency incident,
some techniques that we use and why we use them, fire department
terminology, and dangers involved at the fire scene. The journalists
also get to participate in some firefighting drills so they
get first hand experience of what it feels like to be inside
a burning structure. After completion of the class, the journalists
are given a certificate and jacket listing them as Certified
Fire Journalists. This allows them certain privileges at the
fire scene since they have undergone the training.
