Code 3 FOR A CURE

CODE 3 FOR A CURE is an annual mission of hope and honor that began this year (2008), when a crew of firefighters departed from Los Angeles on June 13 and drove a fire engine, courtesy of Sutphen Corporation, across America. They returned on July 15.

The CODE 3 crew traveled 9,880 miles across 24 states, stopping at 59 fire departments, all within a 33-day period. They collected the names of fallen firefighters (both active and retired) who have lost their lives due to cancer. Learn more

On July 10th Code 3 wote in their page:

We never realized just how big El Paso is. Covering 250 square miles with 23 fire stations, you can see Mexico from certain areas of town. We met a super group of people, the El Paso Firefighters from Station 33. Lieutenant Mario Hernandez, who coordinated our visit, introduced us to everyone, and soon the media arrived and an interview of the crew began, giving the Firefighters a very clear picture of what the mission of CODE 3 FOR A CURE is.

Station 33 was a busy station, and the crew responded on several calls while we were there. Later we were privileged to also meet Battalion Chief Brad Webb, and sat down to a really great dinner with the Station crew, cooked by the Firefighters themselves. It included chicken enchiladas and homemade salsa mixed in a blender that was out of this world. We enjoyed a lot of camaraderie and friendship with the guys and received a comfortable night’s rest.

Thank you, El Paso Fire Department, for your warm hospitality and for opening your doors to our mission of hope!
