Fat Tuesday Task Force 2009

Tomorrow Tuesday, February 24th 2009 (AKA Fat Tuesday) The El Paso Fire Marshals Office will be conducting random Safety Inspections of several establishments conducting Mardi gras festivities throughout the city and checking for Fire Code Violations. The inspections will be conducted by several teams of inspectors and will be done throughout the city. The main goal for Fire Officials is the safety of the public as they enjoy the Mardi gras festivities.

Some of the violations being looked for will include but are not limited to locked or blocked exits, overcrowding, fire lane violations and other violations Fire Marshal Inspectors deem to be a danger to the public. Establishment owners who are planning Mardi gras festivities on Fat Tuesday are asked to please keep the safety and welfare of the public in mind when planning their events. Fines for fire code violations can go as high as $500.00. Anyone wanting to report any fire safety violations can call the Fire Marshals Office at 771-1090 or they can call the fire department non-emergency number after business hours at 832-4432.
