The EPFD encourages the public to practice fire safety during Fire Prevention Week

EL PASO, Texas - From October 8 to October 12, 2018, the El Paso Fire Department will be commemorating Fire Prevention Week by increasing public awareness on fire safety and the prevention of fire-related injuries, deaths, and property damage; the entire community is encouraged to take part by reviewing and practicing fire safety plans.

As an International Accredited and Class 1 ISO rated fire department, EPFD places a high priority on fire prevention and education. The listed fire safety topics provide guidance to help fire prevention discussions and activities during Fire Prevention Week and throughout the year:
·      Fire drills and escape routes 
·      Dangers of matches and lighters
·      Halloween safety (candle decorations and costume hazards)
·      Smoke alarm maintenance 
·      Cooking safety
·      Turkey frying dangers
·      Holiday decoration hazards
·      Electrical safety
·      Winter/heater safety
·      Fireplace safety
·      Carbon monoxide and smoke detector 

During Fire Prevention Week, EPFD Fire Prevention Division will be visiting different schools to teach fire safety measures and present the Sparky and Gonzo show, an interactive presentation designed to educate children about what they should do in case of a fire.
