DO'S & DON'TS:
|
|
|
1. Do place container
adjacent to the curb, the night before the day of collection after
6:00P.M. or day of collection by 5:00 A.M.
2. Do bag your waste.
3. Don't place container no more than 3 ft. from
the curb.
4. Don't overflow container, lid must be closed.
5. Don't place container close to mailbox,
underneath or next to tree branches.
6. Don't place container around cable, electrical
or telephone lines/connection boxes.
7. Don't place container within 4 feet of a
vehicle.
8. Don't place hazardous materials in container
such as, motor oil, anti-freeze, batteries, or chemicals.
9. Do take your hazardous material to Household
Hazardous Collection sites.
10. Don't place rocks, dirt, construction debris,
or any large heavy metal objects in container.
11. Don't leave your container out in the street.
Container must be stored within your property no later than 7:00P.M. on
the day of collection.
12. Don't "refill" container and take it across the street or to a
neighbor's curb for a second pick-up load.
13. Don't stand by the curb waiting for the truck to empty your
container and then "refill" it for an additional pick-up |

SENIOR CITIZEN OR 100% DISABLE DISCOUNTS
|
A discount of 20% per month is granted to citizens 65
years or older or people with 100% disability. Disabled
citizens must show proof of disability certification either from Social
Security Administration, public disability pension agency, or Veterans
Administration. |

An application must be filed with the Department of Solid Waste
Management, El Paso Water Department or a Senior Citizen Center. No
renewals are required once you sign up. First time applicants must
have form notarized; applications may be picked up and filled out at
any of the following locations: |

ADA WAIVERS
|
If you are physically unable to bring container to the
curb and do not have anyone within your household that can move your
container for you, we will pick-up it from your yard. |

How do you qualify for this service?
(1)Pick-up a waiver form at one of our offices, (2) have
a U.S. licensed physician sign it, (3) notarize and turn in
at one our offices.
*Waivers are not applicable to alley collection. |
DEAD ANIMAL PICK UP

Disposal of pet animals is available for a nominal fee. Citizens
need to call our main office to make arrangements. |

BULK WASTE/SPECIAL COLLECTION/EXTRA WASTE
Bulk waste, ( i.e., mattresses, tree limbs, extra trash, old
appliances, etc.) is collected at the curb, with a fee. Citizens
need to make arrangements for the collection of these items. Fee
can be billed to the water account, or billed to the customer's
address.
FEES: Fees do not include tax.

degreasers, dry cleaning fluids, rust removers, furniture polish, household
cleaning items, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer, charcoal lighter. |
NOT ACCEPTED:

Explosives, ammunition, radioactive wastes, business generated
wastes, commercial hazardous waste, compressed gases, biomedical wastes,
household garbage. |

or governmental entities.

east of the downtown El Paso on I-10. Landfill is located off Exit

RECYCLING
Recyclable items may be dropped off at any of our Citizen Collection
Stations. List of acceptable materials:

BUSINESS RECYCLING: The department provides recycling containers (4
& 6 cubic yard) at a nominal service fee. An agreement is signed and the
business will donate their recyclable items.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT
|
Environmental Enforcement Division, 774-4500 will
initiate investigation for litter, trash accumulation, weeds, etc., violations
on private property. |
|
It is the responsibility of the property owner to keep his property free of
litter and illegal dumping. If the owner does not comply with the City's Code
Compliance Ordinance, the City will clean private property upon notification and
failure to clean, and will be charged for this service. Owners, who do not pay,
will have a lien placed on their property. |
|
NOTE: Under City Ordinance 9.04.350--Obligation of Property owners and
possessors. (A) It shall be the duty of each owner or person having the right of
possession of any property within the city to keep and maintain their properties
and abutting sidewalks, parkways, alleys and street gutters free of
accumulations of waste, to prevent such accumulations and to promptly remove
such wastes from the property. |
TIRES
|
Solid Waste customers may dispose of eight (8) tires per household each year
at no cost.
Waste tires are allowed at the City's Landfill, Household Hazardous Waste
Collection Sites, and Citizen Collection Stations. |
