An estimated $830 million in programmed projects are included in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP)

The CIP accounts for 270 active projects targeting various infrastructure initiatives to include:
  • Street & drainage improvements
  • Expansion, enhancement and construction of municipal facilities
  • Management of the transportation network
  • Opportunities to enhance comprehensive mobility
  • Integration of public art
The City has taken a leadership role in adopting Silver LEED Certification requirements for the construction of all new and renovated city-owned buildings 5,000 square feet and larger.
  • This represents an innovative opportunity to convert design and construction standards towards more sustainable, green infrastructure
Fire Station # 33 was the first municipal building to feature a geothermal heating and cooling unit providing added energy efficiencies and cost savings.

Archives dating back to the early 1900’s are available in the Engineering Map Room
  • Available City archives include subdivision plans, benchmarks, some surveys and state highway plans and documents. Aerial photographs dating as far back as 1956 are also available.
The Sidewalk Gap Replacement Program is available to eligible areas addressing sidewalk connectivity throughout the city.

The new Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) targets solutions to residential traffic concerns citywide.

The Traffic Management Center housed in the Traffic Engineering division oversees a state-of-the-art computerized Signal System.
  • This system manages the signal timing and coordination for approximately 500 traffic signals citywide
Over 5,000 requests for traffic investigations are processed by the Traffic Engineering Division every year.

Close to 500 traffic studies are conducted every year for various requests to include the installation of a multi-way stop or a signal light.

Bike lanes are being added to the scope of construction projects as part of a renewed effort to target the expansion of areas found in the Bikeway System Plan and the creation of new bike paths.
