Wouldn’t it be great if applying for promotional opportunities was a click away? Well now it is. The City of El Paso launched a new online application system. This system allows applicants to apply online anytime from anywhere. Whether you are in town, on vacation, or at home in your pajamas, as long as you have internet access, you can apply. Remember, if you are unable to access the internet from the comfort of your home, you may use any of the public computers located at all public library branches and Police Regional Commands across the City.
Applying for a position is just a click away with these easy steps. To access promotional only opportunities, you will need toclick on the “Promotional Only” link on the left-side of the employment homepage and click “OK” when prompted. It is here that you will find all opportunities that are available to City employees only. (You still may apply for the positions on the main webpage that are for original and promotional applicants, as well). When you find a position that you would like to apply for, simply click on the job title and then click “apply”. If this is your first-time applying, you will need to create an account. If you need any assistance in creating your account, please refer to the "Online Employment Application Guide".
Once you have applied for a position, your application is saved in your online account. No more need to fill out a separate application for each position you wish to apply for. What a great way to save time and "Go Green"! It is very important that you update the contact information in your account whenever it changes and whenever you gain additional education or experience. (Additions or modification will not be accepted for an application that has already been submitted for a specific position, unless specifically requested by Human Resources.)
It is encouraged that you complete an application now, so that it will be ready when you are ready to apply for promotional opportunities. When applying, it is strongly recommended that you fill out the education and experience sections of the application. Résumés may accompany the application and will be reviewed, if needed, to confirm minimum qualifications. Once you submit your application, please check your email account for an "auto-reply" confirming that your application was received. If you do not receive an "auto-reply" confirmation, then your application was not received.
At times, you may be interested in a position that is not available. If you are interested in a position that is not currently open, you may fill out an electronic job interest card and you will be notified when the position has become available. To fill out a job interest card, go to our job description page and find the title of the job you are interested in. Click on the title and the job description will appear. On the right-hand side of the page, click "Email me when jobs like this become available". Fill out the information and click "Submit Request". You will be notified through the email account on file when the position becomes available.
This new online application system has the great benefit of being fast and easy to use. No more filling out an application every time you wish to apply. No more having to drive to City Hall to turn in your application. In addition, the new system is helping save our planet by “Going Green”!
