El Paso Zoo - Stars & Sea Creatures for the 4th!

To celebrate the Fourth of July, the El Paso Zoo Sun Bears will be waving sparklers, and the Orangutans will light bottle rockets! OK, we're just kidding. But the El Paso Zoo is mixing up some fun with edible, USA-themed treats at the "World of the Sea Lion" exhibit.

This 4th of July Weekend, the zoo crew is getting in the holiday sprit with a special treat for the sea lions. Star-shaped ice pops. Not the regular sugar-laden popsicle your 10 year-old craves, no - this is a special blend of aromatic fish and squid snacks in our "special" zoo ice pop treat. The keepers have blended and frozen it in regular cake tins for Sunny and the sea lion gang (Cleo, Coco & Sushi). Yes, Sushi eats sushi. A few drops of food dye will bring the stars to their correct patriotic color and remain safe for the sea lions' saltwater home.

This is the first year the zoo has organized themed 4th of July enrichment treats for the animals. The El Paso Zoo has many enrichment programs, which provide animals with the opportunity to play, hunt and forage as they would in the wild. Come join the sea lions at 10:45 & 2:45 daily as they are fed and taken through their enrichment training - part of the "World of the Sea Lion" Only at your El Paso Zoo.
