J.J. Newberry Company Building

The Newberry Building is a steel frame structure with a cast concrete veneer, exhibits Henry C. Trost’s skill with designing in the architectural language employed by Louis Sullivan and the Chicago School.
Originally constructed to house the Calisher’s Dry Goods Company, other tenants have occupied the building, including the YWCA and the Border National Bank.
The facades on Stanton and Texas streets feature recessed spandrels between the piers extending through the third, fourth, and fifth floors.
The Newberry Building has also been known as the Raynolds Building and the American Furniture Building.
